Happy St. Patrick's Day - 17th March 2010

The Dear Little Shamrock
By Andrew Cherry

There's a dear little plant that grows in our Isle,
'Twas saint Patrick himself sure that set it;
And the sun on his labour with pleasure did smile,
And with dew from his eye often wet it.
It shines thro' the bog, thro' the brake, thro' the mireland,
And he call'd it the dear little Shamrock of Ireland.

CHORUS:
The dear little Shamrock, the sweet little Shamrock,
The dear little, sweet little Shamrock of Ireland.

That dear little plant still grows in our land,
Fresh and fair as the daughters of Erin,
Whose smiles can bewitch, and whose eyes can command,
In each climate they ever appear in:
For they shine thro' the bog, thro' the brake, and the mireland,
Just like their own dear little Shamrock of Ireland.

That dear little plant that springs from our soil,
When its three little leaves extended,
Denotes from the stalk we together should toil,
And ourselves by ourselves be befriended.
And still thro' the bog, thro' the brake, and the mireland,
From one root should branch, like the Shamrock of Ireland.

  1. Happy St. Patrick's Day to you! Hope you have had a wonderful day.

There use to be a celebration and a parade in Oslo on St Patrick's Day, by the Irish people living here. So nice and joyful :)

    Nice song and photo!

  4. Just stopping in to thank you for your visit and comment to my post.
I had a wonderful St. Patrick's Day, I spent the day in the city with a very good friend, and we saw the farewell performance of Riverdance and we were able to catch a little of the parade on 5th Avenue in Manhattan. Beautiful weather, great crowds, lots of fun! I hope you enjoyed the day too!

You have a lovely blog here and I will be visiting often. 'Loved 'The Dear Little Shamrock'! Thanks for sharing!
    All the best,
    Eileen
